Kale Yeah! Kitchens Putting sustainability on the menu

What's Kale Yeah! Kitchens?

Kale Yeah! Kitchens is a flexible scheme helping caterers make their menus more sustainable – in order to address the climate crisis, protect nature and improve people’s health.

It centres around serving less meat, fish and dairy, sourcing better (higher welfare) animal products and offering more tasty plant-based options.

Our resources will help caterers meet and exceed the Climate Change Committee’s recommendation that we reduce the consumption of all meat and dairy by 20% by 2030, and by 35% by 2050.

How do we get started?

We’ve made it easy for caterers to join. All you need to do is agree to the Kale Yeah! Kitchens pledge, and then use our resources to rebalance, incentivise and promote your menus. It’s easy to make changes that’ll have a big impact, while keeping your customers satisfied.

Why the need?

Meat and dairy production, particularly from intensive systems, has a huge impact – on the planet, climate emissions, our health and animal welfare.

In the UK we eat twice as much meat as the global average. Government advisory body, the Climate Change Committee, recommends that we reduce meat and dairy consumption by 20% by 2030, and by 35% by 2050.

Friends of the Earth and allies in the Eating Better alliance say we need to go further and halve the amount of meat and dairy eaten and produced in the UK by 2030. That's all meat – including chicken and pork. This would help meet climate goals, restore nature and improve our health. Less and better meat and dairy is key.
